deepening at the Port of Savannah .
Georgia officials have long touted the state ’ s extensive highway and rail systems , business-friendly climate and proximity to the East Coast and Midwest . The chamber ’ s transportation affiliate coordinates the work of all stakeholders
— ports , trucking , rail and road builders — into a united voice to promote that infrastructure development .
“ We think that has paid off ,” Clark added .
The state has seen tremendous investment in the trade and logistics sector recently . At the 2023 Georgia Transportation Summit , held in December , Georgia Ports Authority ( GPA ) Chief Operating Officer Ed McCarthy highlighted $ 4.5 billion in port-related projects including plans to bolster port infrastructure over the next 10 years . Projects include Garden City Terminal West , adding 1 million TEUs of annual container yard capacity at the Port of Savannah and expected to be completed in two phases during 2024 ; and the $ 127 million Blue Ridge Connector , an inland rail terminal set to open in 2026 in Gainesville .
On March 7 , GPA announced that the Georgia General Assembly has set aside more than $ 6 million to help fund the harbor improvements at the Port of Brunswick .
The state is also seeing the return of manufacturing . In February , Gov . Brian Kemp announced new facilities being planned by two companies : auto parts manufacturer and supplier Doowon Climate Control America expects to spend more than $ 30 million on a new manufacturing site in the city of Metter , and real estate firm Resia
