In the specific area of electric vehicle ( EV ) manufacturing , Gov . Kemp set a goal of Georgia becoming the top location in the United States , which has yielded significant investment .
One of the state ’ s largest private sector developments centers around the Hyundai Motor Group ’ s $ 5.54 billion Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America ( HMGMA ).
The 3,000-acre EV manufacturing facility in Bryan County has been designed to incorporate technologically advanced elements as well as supporting collaboration and renewable energy , a recent press release noted .
Hyundai Motor Group broke ground on the facility in late 2022 . Production is expected to begin in early 2025 .
“ The site is advancing every day as we work diligently to complete what will be one
of the most advanced vehicle assembly and battery plants in the world ,” HMGMA Chief Executive Oscar Kwon said .
LG Energy Solution ( LGES ) is the joint venture partner for HMGMA ’ s onsite battery cell manufacturing . The EV manufacturing facility will be able to support the production of 300,000 units of EVs
annually at full operations ; battery packs will be assembled using cells from the plant , then supplied to the Hyundai Motor Group ’ s US manufacturing facilities for production of Hyundai , Kia and Genesis EV models , detailed a recent press release .
“ In a single year , we broke ground on the largest project in state history , landed multiple suppliers across the state for Hyundai ’ s Metaplant and welcomed LGES to Bryan County . Today , we ’ re building on that success as we continue to make Georgia the e-mobility capital of the nation ,” said Governor Brian Kemp .
“ Georgia has become — in the last 36 months — the buckle of the ‘ battery belt ’ ... that focus on advanced manufacturing logistics has really raised the profile for us as a center for the auto industry .”
HMGMA will create further inbound parts and outbound product opportunities for companies such as Matson , which has a Savannah Logistics Center that boasts approximately 1.1 million square feet of warehousing located six miles from the
