The Asia-Europe Container Shipping Outlook: A TPM27 Webcast

Schedule reliability on the Asia-Europe trades has been destroyed by four typhoons in seven weeks that created berthing delays lasting up to 14 days across Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan and Yantian. The average delay for late vessels on Asia-Europe in mid-September exceeded six days for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from rate benchmarking platform Xeneta showed that on-time performance plummeted to just 6 % in August on both the Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean trades, with residual delays expected to persist through October as the Golden Week shutdown adds to container backlogs. The delays are hitting the Asia-Europe trade lane as carriers rapidly return services to the Suez, placing further pressure on North European import gateways that are already facing structural bottlenecks.
