Spotlight what the majority of stakeholders have been saying all along: The application lacks transparency and depth while offering mitigating conditions of little benefit to address the scope of competitive harms we believe this merger represents,” Zak Anderson, BNSF’ s vice president of communications, said in a statement. Hapag-Lloyd to alter Zim bid to placate Israel
Hapag-Lloyd will revise its $ 4.2 billion takeover deal for Zim Integrated Shipping Services to address concerns from the Israeli government that the transaction, in its current form, would undermine national security. CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said in a statement the Hamburg-based carrier was“ developing an improved proposal.” No details were provided, nor did Hapag-Lloyd indicate when the new terms would be disclosed. The proposed acquisition has faced strong opposition from the highest levels of Israel’ s government, as well as labor unions, since it was announced in February. Following a series of meetings with Israeli government officials, it is believed revisions to the proposal include establishing Zim as an Israeli-controlled carrier owned by Israeli private equity fund FIMI. If the takeover is successful, the combined entity will solidify Hapag-Lloyd’ s position as the world’ s fifth-largest container shipping company with more than 400 ships and a combined fleet capacity of over 3 million TEUs.

One of Germany’ s richest men, Kühne was seen as a visionary in the world of logistics, serving as CEO of K + N for 17 years before becoming majority owner and then honorary chairman of the board. But he was also dogged by reports that the Kühne family fortune profited from assets of Jewish families looted by the Nazis during World War II. Kühne is widely regarded as playing a pioneering role in shaping global trade and

Meanwhile, Tung Chee-hwa, the shipping tycoon turned politician who steered the Tung family liner company, Orient Overseas Container Line( OOCL), away from the brink of collapse in the 1980s and later helmed Hong Hong’ s transition from British to Chinese control, has also died at age 89. His death was confirmed by his private office in Hong Kong. Tung was chairman of
