On Gateway
Ocean reliability from Europe to Asia is scraping single- digit lows as carriers speed up back-haul returns via the Suez Canal to mitigate the impact of typhoons that hit China’ s largest ports. Data from Xeneta subsidiary eeSea shows that on-time performance on both the Asia – North Europe and Asia – Mediterranean trades plummeted to just 6 % in August, the lowest in more than four years of available data. Residual delays are expected to persist through October as Golden Week factory shutdowns in China add to container backlogs.

The DAT Freight and Analytics average US truckload spot rate was $ 2.19 per mile in the week of Sept. 12, 2026, down from a four-year high of $ 2.47 per mile in the week of July 11 but up from $ 1.62 per mile in the same week last year.

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days, and long-term contracts valid for 87 days or more. Terminal handling charges are excluded. The Sept. 17, 2026, average spot rate from Asia to the US West Coast was $ 7,309 per FEU, up 2.5 % from the previous week. Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three months increased 3.3 % to $ 3,640 per FEU, while overall long-term contract rates jumped 5.1 % to $ 2,458 per FEU.
