Mobilizing containers smarter, cleaner and faster

Automated, all-electric overhead rail off ers ports a scalable solution for connecting multi-node handling operations while reducing congestion, emissions and improving supply chain reliability.
EagleRail is redefi ning how the world’ s busiest ports and inland hubs transfer containers between nodes. The US-based company develops and operates automated, elevated rail systems powered by clean electricity to transfer containers between ship terminals, near-dock yards, railheads, logistics parks and industrial facilities.
“ Ports everywhere are under pressure to move more with less— less land, less congestion and less carbon,” said Mike Wychocki, founder and chief marketing offi cer of EagleRail.“ Our all-electric system unlocks capacity without adding trucks, roads, bridges or emissions.”
The overhead, horizontal guideway lifts containers above crowded port roadways, easing urban congestion and improving air quality. Each automated carrier can transport fully loaded 20-, 40- or 53-foot containers, delivering consistent, predictable fl ows that complement traditional drayage. In a typical deployment, EagleRail can move the equivalent of multiple truck moves per hour while reducing truck emissions at the gate by up to 70 %.
EagleRail’ s modular design makes it adaptable to diverse geographies. These custom systems can link directly to intermodal rail, barge and warehousing facilities, creating seamless extensions of the global supply chain.
EagleRail provides a sustainable way to scale container throughput without expanding port footprints. A techno- economic study conducted by PwC found that Eagle- Rail improves container throughput effi- ciency by over 50 %.
Equally important is EagleRail’ s business model. Structured as regional, franchise-like partnerships, projects are developed in with local operators and port authorities, ensuring systems are tailored to regional requirements while benefi ting from EagleRail’ s technical and operational expertise.
With project studies advancing in North America, the Middle East, South Asia and Europe, EagleRail has gained recognition for aligning with decarbonization mandates while improving port performance.
“ As container trade grows, the world needs smarter ways to process container in-and-out of ports faster,” Wychocki said.“ We are investing in solutions that make ports more effi cient, cleaner and better prepared for future growth demands.” www. joc. com October 6, 2025 | Journal of Commerce 43
