Truckload visibility startup lands investment , top broker clients

The company competes with a long list of existing shipment management and visibility providers , as well as services and technology offered to shippers by their thirdparty logistics providers . The use of emails and spreadsheets , in lieu of a logistics-specific system , to manage shipments is still prevalent among import teams .

Freight visibility provider GenLogs has secured $ 6 million in funding from venture investors to accelerate its efforts to arm freight brokers with better truckload visibility to tackle load matching and fraud prevention .
Virginia-based GenLogs also said it has been working with five of the top 10 US freight brokers since its official launch in July .
GenLogs is developing a nationwide network of roadside sensors that passively collect real-time data on truck movements and extract key details , such as US Department of Transportation and motor carrier identifiers , as well as the equipment types and logos .
“ The entire market wants comprehensive data on all truck patterns , but placing sensors on 4 million trucks is a pipe dream ,” GenLogs CEO Ryan Joyce said in a statement Sept . 23 . “ Using a proprietary roadside sensor network enables us to collect all that same data on the 4 million trucks without needing their permission .”
The company ’ s first funding round , led by Autotech Ventures and Steel Atlas , with participation from Venture53 , TitletownTech , Plug and Play Ventures , BBQ Capital , ASC Ventures , and JHH Ventures , will be used primarily to expand its sensor network and computer vision models that underpin the GenLogs product .
