Average rail container dwell times in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach surged to 9.25 days in September , the highest since October 2022 , according to data from the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association . Marine terminal operators , however , say the record volumes pushing up container dwell times have not contributed to congestion . That is confirmed by the Marine Exchange of Southern California , which reports no vessels waiting offshore .

The Oct . 12 , 2024 , DAT Freight and Analytics average weekly spot truckload rate , excluding fuel surcharges , was $ 1.63 per mile , unchanged from the previous two weeks but up 4.5 % from $ 1.56 per mile in the week of Oct . 13 , 2023 .

Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days , and long-term contract that are valid for 87 days or more . Terminal Handling Charges ( THCs ) are excluded . The Oct . 17 , 2024 , average spot rate from Asia to US West Coast was $ 5,006 per FEU , down 1 % from the previous week . Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three month increased 4 % from the previous week to $ 3,437 per FEU , while rates in all long-term contracts slipped 0.2 % to $ 2,367 per FEU .
