Global Shipping Report: Analyzing the 2027 Outlook
December 3, 2026, 2:00 PM EST
A surprisingly resilient global economy and capacitysucking port congestion have helped make container shipping far more profitable than most anticipated at the beginning of 2026. Next year, however, is when the long-warned-about wave of new tonnage is set to hit the industry, putting downstream pressure on container rates and ocean reliability. The return of container ships to regular Suez Canal transits is already pumping more functional tonnage back into the market, with transits back to half of what they were before Houthi rebel attacks in late 2023. The outlook for container shipping also depends on the outcome of the war with Iran and how quickly carriers can move vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Lower water levels in the Panama Canal could also become a capacity chokepoint. Helping put all these factors into perspective, this webcast will detail the outlook for capacity and demand globally and major ocean trades, and supply chain risk in 2027. https:// bit. ly / 4slV0HY

Port Performance and the State of North American Cargo Flow
December 10, 2026, 2:00 PM EST Co-Sponsor: Northwest Seaport Alliance
US ports are working with their supply chain partners to promote greater use of inland hubs connected to their marine terminals by intermodal rail and truck as a quick and efficient strategy to increase their imports and exports by expanding their reach inland. In many instances, the inland hubs already exist. The Northwest Seaport Alliance of Seattle and Tacoma in 2019 signed an interlocal agreement with the Port of Benton, the Port of Pasco and the Port of Walla in southeastern Washington to develop and expand an Inland Logistics Hub in the Tri-Cities region of southeastern Washington. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are coordinating efforts with the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads to expand rail connections with inland hubs including Barstow, California, Mojave Inland Port in Kern County, California, and locations in Utah. The South Carolina Ports Authority continues to expand its links with the inland ports in Greer and Dillon and the retailers that have distribution facilities in the state. https:// bit. ly / 4i23E9u

Tesla driving intermodal surge from Southern California to Houston
Houston-destined imports arriving at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach more than quadrupled year over year in September, fueled by Panama Canal draft restrictions and an influx of cargo meant for Tesla’ s electric vehicle factories in Texas. https:// bit. ly / 3VWizuQ
