To meet the rising demand for refrigerated goods, the port recently broke ground on a new, 165,500-square-foot refrigerated warehouse, the last phase of the PhilaPort Distribution Center. Set to be completed in 2026, it will house more than 25,000 pallet positions of new product and is expected to significantly expand its cold storage capacity. The more than $ 100 million facility has been financed with public and private funds.
“ It’ s an exciting project,” Mahoney said.“ I think it’ s going to not just support existing customers but drive new customers into Packer Avenue Marine Terminal.”
Holt Logistics Corp. said the project could further the company’ s own goal of adding a direct Asian service to Philadelphia.
“ Right now, Asian products come via transshipment, and it’ s really important for us as Philadelphians— and to create more jobs and more economic activity for the region— to bring that direct service into Philadelphia. This building will hopefully drive that service,” said Christian Holt, sales and marketing representative at Holt Logistics Corp.
