The rising cost of US trucking is showing up in various indices. The TD Cowen / AFS index, for example, measured a 10.2 % jump in truckload linehaul costs per shipment in the first quarter. The TD Cowen / AFS truckload rate per mile index is expected to reach 10.1 % in the second quarter, up from 9 % in the first quarter and its highest level in three years. The US truckload producer price index( PPI), which covers spot and contract rates paid by shippers and includes fuel surcharges rose 4.3 % in March, its first annualized increase since February 2025.

Weekly spot truckload rates per mile excluding fuel surcharges. The DAT Freight and Analytics average US truckload spot rate was $ 1.89 per mile in the week of March 14, 2026, down from $ 1.96 per mile in the previous week but up from $ 1.59 per mile in the same week last year.

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days, and long-term contracts valid for 87 days or more. Terminal handling charges are excluded. The April 16, 2026, average spot rate from Asia to the US West Coast was $ 2,216 per FEU, up 5.2 % from the previous week. Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three months slipped 0.2 % to $ 1,669 per FEU, while overall long-term contract rates ticked up 1.3 % to $ 1,553 per FEU.
