“ Providing excellent equipment on time and in the right location is important,” Sappio noted.“ Equally important is providing information about the condition of the cargo,” as telematics essentially help a box become a dataproducing asset.
A Mexico-Philadelphia maritime bridge
One of the newest players in Philadelphia’ s trade and logistics landscape is Green Tide Logistics, which launched its Mexico – Philadelphia all-water service in 2025. This resource has already begun reshaping crossborder trade.
“ We’ re a new company, but we bring 17 to 18 years of experience,” said Hans Schriwer, CEO of Green Tide Logistics. This includes tenure with the groundbreaking Maersk Avocado Express, a service that set the standard for fast-transit, precision-temperature reefer logistics.
The all-water service offers something the market has never had before: a direct, six-day ocean bridge from the Gulf of Mexico to Philadelphia.
“ Same transit as truck, less CO2, more efficient and cost-effective. We’ re bringing a water bridge between the two largest trading partners together,” Schriwer said.
The service uses sophisticated port facilities in Tuxpan and Philadelphia,
creating a seamless cold-chain corridor to the northeast market and beyond.
“ Our Canada-bound cargo goes into Holt in Philly, then by truck or CN rail to Toronto and Montreal daily,” Schriwer said.“ It’ s the fastest maritime connection to the Northeast and Canada.”
Schriwer noted that federal guidelines around English language proficiency for commercial truck drivers have increased the need for an alternative to the US- Mexico land border.
“ As a vessel-based company, the fact that land borders now allow only English at borders for truckers works in our favor,” he added.“ There’ s friction in cross-border trucking, and customers are looking for alternatives.”

Capturing growth
Demand for fresh, high-quality food continues to rise across the US, and Philadelphia is in an exceptional position to capture that persistent growth.
“ We’ re seeing strong demand across citrus, berries, grapes and tropical products,” Antonucci said.“ Consumers expect year-round availability.”
