JIT Warehousing & Logistics has also seen its business expand and diversify in the region since Ben Goldberg founded the family business by fulfilling a need for truckers and warehouse employees to retrieve steel bulk cargo from Garden City Terminal .
With five locations in Savannah within 3.5 miles of the terminal , the company has grown to handle multiple commodities .
JIT also added facilities , including bulk handing , to accommodate containerized cargo as the terminal expanded , according to Evelyn Goldberg-Davis , executive vice president at JIT .
Business has continued to accelerate . JIT expanded its heavy haul fleet and added drivers and equipment to facilitate the influx of higher volumes of project and out-of-gauge cargo .

A new rail-served , 230,000-squarefoot warehouse near the port further broadens the company ’ s service portfolio . It has also utilized grants to phase out older diesel tractors and replace them with cleaner tractors that use compressed natural gas .
JIT also plans to increase its heavy haul and project cargo capacity to meet the demands of the auto and manufacturing sectors with the addition of new trucks , specialized equipment and experienced drivers .
With its efforts to make necessary fleet upgrades and maintain competitive pay structures and benefits , JIT has stayed ahead of industry challenges , including a nationwide shortage of qualified truck drivers .
“ We have company chassis and trailers and ample yard space that enable drivers to work more efficiently ,” Goldberg- Davis said . “ Being able to provide steady work for all drivers with higher levels of compensation has been key in maintaining a fleet in today ’ s economy .” Clark expects continued growth . “ No one can really read the crystal ball on what ’ s going to happen with the global economy , but we ’ ve reshored so much manufacturing where we have plans to build out our infrastructure for the long term , and you ’ ve got [ the ] Port of Savannah willing to invest $ 3 billion over the next 10 years into their own operations .
“[ This ] all spells , I think , long-term fiscal , responsible economic growth and quite frankly , quality jobs .
