In 2025, GPA opened the $ 22 million South Side Rail Yard at the Port of Brunswick, doubling its vehicle-handling capacity to 370,000 units annually.
Building on this success, the $ 134 million Blue Ridge Connector( BRC) rail terminal in Gainesville, Ga., is expected to open in May 2026 and divert 52,000 truck trips over its first year, cutting emissions by up to 90 %. Norfolk Southern( NS) will provide daily weekday service. As trade volumes expand, NS is upsizing its rail network. Shippers across the Southeast are demanding“ faster, more predictable, more resilient supply chains,” and the railroad is responding with major operational and infrastructure improvements, noted Ed Elkins, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Norfolk Southern.
“ We’ ve strengthened our operating performance significantly over the last year,” he said.“ In 2025, we achieved zero mainline derailments in Q4— our best accident rate in more than a decade.” Additionally, unscheduled stops decreased by 31 %, and the railroad
