Anticipating a surge in imports to the US West Coast starting in June, BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad are ensuring they have sufficient staff, locomotives and equipment at critical terminals across the US. The Class I railroads have improved rail flow in Southern California in recent months, according to a key barometer measuring average dwell times that is collected by the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association and displayed on Gateway.

DAT spot rates experience significant monthly surge

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days and long-term contract that are valid for 87 days or more. Terminal Handling Charges( THCs) are excluded. The May 15, 2025, average spot rate from Asia to the US West Coast was $ 2,072 per FEU, steady from the previous week. Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three months declined 0.1 % to $ 1,621 per FEU, while overall long-term contract rates slipped 0.3 % to $ 1,788 per FEU.
