Freight auditing and payment processes key to driving efficiency, mitigating risk

By Gary Wollenhaupt
Explosive use of e-commerce and just-in-time deliveries over the last decade has generated an sharp rise in parcel shipments. Managing large numbers of deliveries can be complex and leave room for error, and difficulty only increases when multiple carriers, modes of transportation and countries are involved.
Shippers are now looking to their freight auditing and payment( FAP) providers to mitigate billing inaccuracies and offer insight to manage future spending. Additionally, as cargo theft and cyberattacks continue to impact supply chains around the world, the industry must remain cautious to avoid further losses.
The FAP process includes the verification of transportation invoices to reflect fixed rates and services. When an invoice is audited and validated, it moves on to payment. Shippers can save money by utilizing FAP services to identify invoice errors, avoid overpayment and manage overall transportation spend.
