US-China tariff pause boosts bookings, raises disruption risk

The starting gun has sounded.
US importers have until July 9 to get cargo loaded on to ships in China for it to arrive in the US in time to avoid the risk of much higher tariffs that could be reimposed on Chinese-made goods.
The May 12 announcement of a 90-day reprieve on the steepest duties— reduced from 145 % to 30 %— sparked a rush of bookings, attempted price increases on spot and contracted cargo, and concerns about port congestion at US ports. www. joc. com June 2, 2025 | Journal of Commerce 11
