China ’ s ports still lead performance rankings , while India ’ s move higher : CPPI

While the upper tier of the most efficient global container ports remained mostly unchanged last year , the middle tier saw upheaval as ports at emerging export economies joined the ranks of top performers , according to the 2023 Container Port Performance Index ( CPPI ).
The CPPI , co-developed by S & P Global Market Intelligence and the World Bank , uses metrics such as the number of calls , vessel sizes and time at berth to rank the performance of 405 container ports around the globe .
Turloch Mooney , head of Port Intelligence & Analytics at S & P Global Market Intelligence , said the CPPI provides a roadmap for shippers , manufacturers and policymakers to understand how port efficiency impacts overall supply chain costs .
“ The highly interconnected nature of container shipping means the negative effect of poor performance in a port can extend beyond that port ’ s hinterland and disrupt entire schedules ,” Mooney said in a June 4 statement accompanying
