Midyear Container Shipping Report: How the Economy, Consumer Trends and Logistics Shifts Are Impacting the 2025 Peak Season
July 17, 2025, 2:00 PM EDT
When President Donald Trump was reelected last November, most US importers and exporters knew what was in store: tariffs. Fewer, however, realized just how chaotic the on-again, off-again, on-again tariff roller coaster would be. The resulting whiplash effect— with importers front-loading cargo to beat tariff deadlines, then pausing shipments to avoid the duties, then ramping up again when the administration suspended implementation— has left shippers in a state of uncertainty. The 90-day pauses on higher tariffs, which expire for nearly all countries on July 8 and for China imports on Aug. 12, helped trigger an earlier peak season for the winter holiday shopping season. But with US retail sales slowing and Americans pulling back on travel spending, the import momentum appears poised to hit a hard wall in the second half. How container lines manage capacity in the face of weaker volumes will set the stage. A rise in blank sailings would challenge not just importers but also exporters grappling with changing windows for outbound shipments. https:// bit. ly / 4ekZ0Bx

Breakbulk and Project Cargo Outlook: How Tariffs and Geopolitical Strife Will Impact the Rest of 2025
September 11, 2025, 10:00 AM EDT
Tariffs, intensifying conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine, a slowing global economy and increased competition from the container shipping fleet are all driving heightened uncertainty in the multipurpose and heavy-lift vessel( MPV / HL) market. Project investors started the year with a wait-and-see attitude, and shippers rushed to frontload some commodities in the first half even as charter rates rose, fell and rose again. This webcast will examine cargo demand and MPV / HL fleet supply and makeup amid a tumultuous geopolitical environment. Join Breakbulk and Project Cargo Senior Research Analyst Susan Oatway; Niclas Prehm, head of research at Toepfer Transport, publisher of the Toepfer Multipurpose Index; and Justin Archard, shipbroker with Friday & Co. and creator of the Multipurpose and Breakbulk Market Sentiment Index, as they discuss their expectations for the remainder of the year. https:// bit. ly / 4ngr8JZ
