The only signs of manufacturing growth in major global markets are coming from the US. S & P Global’ s US manufacturing purchasing manager’ s index( PMI) fell slightly in June from May, but the index reading of 52.8 remained above the 50-point threshold that indicates an expansion in production activity from the previous month. The modest recovery in US manufacturing is welcome news to a trucking sector that has been in a demand recession for the better part of three years, but it hardly suggests a meaningful freight recovery in the second half.

DAT spot rates experience significant monthly surge
Weekly spot truckload rates per mile excluding fuel surcharges. In the past three weeks, The DAT Freight and Analytics average US truckload spot rate was $ 1.66 per mile in the week of June 14, 2025, up slightly from $ 1.65 per mile in each of the previous two weeks.

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days, and long-term contracts valid for 87 days or more. Terminal Handling Charges( THCs) are excluded. The May 15, 2025 average spot rate from Asia to US West Coast was $ 3,951 per FEU, flat from the previous week. Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three months fell 3.8 % to $ 2,102 per FEU, while overall long-term contract rates declined 3.5 % to $ 2,121 per FEU.
