The latest orders by multipurpose vessel( MPV) operators Nordic Hamburg Group and Fujian Highton Development of up to a dozen vessels reflect expectations of continued demand to move wind power components despite President Donald Trump making the US less hospitable to the industry. The MPV fleet is expanding steadily, albeit slowly, with an order book equivalent to just 8 % of the current operating fleet. Some 6 million dwt of new capacity is forecast over the next five years, 4.7 million dwt of which is expected to be heavy-lift capable.
