The pullback in US truckload capacity appears to be coming to an end , signaling carrier expectations of a stronger market in 2025 , even if current demand remains weak . That ’ s reflected in the end to a long , steep slide in the Journal of Commerce Truckload Capacity Index ( TCI ), a measure of trucks fielded by large companies . The TCI dipped only 0.3 percentage points in the third quarter from the previous three months . Truckload capacity remains a key concern for carriers , brokers and shippers as they enter annual contract negotiations .

DAT spot rate reflects robust weekly growth
Weekly spot truckload rates per mile excluding fuel surcharges . The DAT Freight and Analytics national average spot rate rose to $ 1.65 per mile in the week of Nov . 9 , 2024 , up from $ 1.64 per mile in the previous week and $ 1.55 per mile in the same week last year .

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days , and long-term contract that are valid for 87 days or more . Terminal Handling Charges ( or THCs ) are excluded . The Nov . 14 , 2024 average spot rate from Asia to the US West Coast of $ 4,622 per FEU was down 0.6 % from the previous week . Rates in long-term contracts signed in the last three months rose 2.1 % from the previous week to $ 3,137 per FEU , while overall long-term contract pricing slipped 0.3 % to $ 2,192 per FEU .
