On Gateway
The cost to truck goods out of the top US import gateways shot up in June at a rate not seen since the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Journal of Commerce index based on dry-van truckload rates from DAT Freight & Analytics. The sharpest rise was in Savannah, where the average outbound rate rose 16 % sequentially to $ 4.12 per mile in June. Dry-van rates out of major US ports traditionally rise during the trans-Pacific peak season, but the scale of the increase this year reflects an early and intense import peak that caught many observers off guard.

The DAT Freight and Analytics average US truckload spot rate was $ 2.51 per mile in the week of July 11, 2026, up from $ 2.47 per mile in the previous week and $ 1.65 per mile in the same week last year and the highest since March 2022.

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days, and long-term contracts valid for 87 days or more. Terminal handling charges are excluded. The July 16, 2026, average spot rate from Asia to the US West Coast was $ 6,031 per FEU, down 3.9 % from the previous week. Pricing in long-term contracts signed in the last three months grew 2.6 % to $ 1,915 per FEU, while overall long-term contract rates ticked up 2.4 % to $ 1,929 per FEU.
