Trans-Atlantic container lines are trying reverse a three-month slump in spot pricing even as some US importers from the European Union are holding off on orders due to new US tariffs. North Europe – US East Coast spot rates are down 13 % since the beginning of the year, according to Platts, a sister company of the Journal of Commerce within S & P Global. Container lines are setting freight-all-kinds( FAK) rates in the range of $ 3,000 to $ 7,000 per FEU, but there’ s no guarantee shippers will pay up or even ship in the face of widespread tariff uncertainty.

DAT spot rates experience significant monthly surge
The DAT Freight and Analytics weekly spot truckload rate, excluding fuel surcharges, dropped to $ 1.62 per mile in the week of March 1, 2025, a 12 % decline from the a recent peak of $ 1.84 per mile recorded in the week of Jan. 11.

Xeneta Asia to US West Coast short and long-term rates
Xeneta aggregates freight rates for both short-term contracts valid for less than 32 days and long-term contracts that are valid for 87 days or more. Terminal Handling Charges( THCs) are excluded. The March 20, 2025 average spot rate from Asia to US West Coast was $ 2,117 per FEU, down 8.7 % from the previous week, while pricing in longterm contracts signed in the last three month slipped 0.6 % from previous week to $ 2,302 per FEU.
