Overall , southbound cargo volumes from the US were down slightly in 2023 , but a few growth categories stood out . US plastic resin exports to Central America last year rose 17 % from 2022 to 15,228 TEUs , according to PIERS , a sister product of the Journal of Commerce within S & P Global . Chemical soda and wood pulp exports jumped 26 % to 11,412 TEUs during the same period .
Refrigerated poultry and pork exports from the US Gulf ticked up a combined 6 % to 17,875 TEUs in 2023 , according to PIERS .
