Industrial expansion driving boost in New Orleans project cargo volumes
By Keith Wallis
Industrial project development will boost project cargo volumes at the Port of New Orleans ( Port NOLA ) this year even as the port sees traditional breakbulk cargoes move back to containers and vessel calls continue to stabilize in the post-COVID market .
The increase in project and breakbulk cargo tonnage will be driven by industrial projects such as expansion work and new developments involving a wood products factory , a steel pipe facility , a clean-fuel plant and a factory making batteries for electric vehicles , Amanda Coates , the port ’ s head of business development , told the Journal of Commerce .
Project volumes will also include steel and modules related to the development of the second phase of the $ 21 billion Venture Global liquefied natural gas ( LNG )
